MORE ABOUT WENDY...I grew up in New Haven, Connecticut... At the age of 12, I began acting with an ensemble group called the Alliance Theatre, performing in numerous stage productions, including Rain, You Can’t Take It With You and Moon On A Rainbow Shawl. That's when I fell in love with performing. I fell in love with being on stage! My first taste of television was at 14 when I performed the role of Frankie in Member Of the Wedding on Hartford Connecticut Public Access Television, and again at 18 when I joined the cast as a regular actress on Crime Stoppers, a local news program on WTNH (ABC) re-enacting crimes shown for the 6:00pm evening news. My performances in these local efforts garnered rave reviews and began a love of performance which permanently altered my long-range plans. I spent my college years at Southern Connecticut State University performing with the university's theatre group the Crescent Players. Secretly, I had aspirations to sing. However, I had one small problem to overcome - a paralyzing case of stage fright. I was terrified to sing in front of people. I was persistent and determined not to let fear stop me. With a powerful desire to sing, I conquered my fears and started off on my musical journey.
Our first single 'Feel the Rhythm" off the 1991 CNR album “2 Timin” hit the top 20 European Charts. The second single "Tear It Up" also hit the charts, establishing the group as an innovator in hip hop music and earned them a place in the music biz as the first female rap group with female vocals. TLC followed with their albumn "Ooooooohhh.... On the TLC Tip", released in February 1992 by LaFace. Def La Desh toured extensively, selling their debut albumn worldwide and their music videos aired on MTV Europe, VH1, BET, VH1 and MTV America. We performed at the Winter Music Dance Awards in Miami, on the hugely popular French Music television and hit the dance club scene hard for 3 years. Both hit songs were featured in television shows, movies and placed on numerous compilation CDs including "Turn Up The Base Vol 20", "Unity Megamix" (Belgium), "Hardcore Dancefloor" (UK), "Juliana’s Tokyo Vol 4" (Japan), "Mindblowing 4" (Sweden), "Chartbreak Outs Vol 3" and many others. In 1993, I left Def La Desh and released the single “Unforgiven” on the Polydor label which landed me back in the Dutch and French Dance Charts. In 1993 I was planning to do a solo album. I also wrote, co-produced a single called “Feel Good” for decided to give it to European film and music superstar, Tatjana Simic (Flodder). “Feel Good” with it's catchy melody and my vocals carrying the chorus, fast became a summer hit, the single was placed on numerous CD compilations and helped further establish Tatjana as an international star. Tatjana recorded a video of the song which played on MTV Europe, MTV America etc. "Feel Good" can also be heard on the film soundtrack of Flodder 3. In 1994, when I moved back to Los Angeles, I got my first agent Susan Salgado at Bobby Ball Talent Agency. They booked me as an opening act for the Four Tops, got me a couple of tv auditions and to get my feet wet in film & television I worked for a year as a background actress in over 80 television shows and movies including "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" with Whoopi Goldberg, "Living Out Loud" with Holly Hunter and Danny Devito, ER, Family Matters, Friends, Chicago Hope, Fame LA, Melrose Place and Soldier of Fortune. Every minute on the sets were awesome and confirmed that tv was exactly where I wanted to be. I especially enjoyed a moment on the series "Over The Top" (Tim Curry) when John Ritter choreographed a scene for he and I to do together to get the laughs. God Bless John Ritter, wherever he may be! In 1996, I recorded another song also entitled "Feel The Rhythm" with famous L.A. Disk Jockey DJ Juanito for Groove Nations Records. An instant club hit, the song quickly landed on radio playlists reaching #2 position on L.A.s #1 radio show Powertools 105.9. Grammy nominated remixer Richard "Humpty" Vission put "Feel The Rhythm" on his internationally known compilation CD the House Connection and it appeared on numerous dance compilation CD's. Next Groove Nation re-released "Unforgiven" which also made the top 20 play list of Powertools in 1997.With the success of these 2 dance songs, I became popular in the clubs and after performing for 6 months throughout L.A. was offered a record deal by MCA. The deal fell through when the President of MCA was fired so, I used this opportunity to stop recording for the first time in 7 years and begin performing with a live R&B/Blues band called Billy’s Night Out. Billy’s Night Out played local Los Angeles clubs for 3 years. I discovered singing with a live band was the most exciting and rewarding way to express my talent, in fact there is no where I would rather be than on stage performing. From 1998-2000 I performed with Bob Gail Orchestras, booking agency in Beverly Hills for a multitude of functions. I was also selected, the only female singer with the reknowned Art Deco and His Society Orchestra big band. Art Deco performs at private parties for the likes of President and Mrs. Reagan, Michael Eisner, Whoopi Goldberg, the Academy of Motion Picture Art & Sciences, and Pasadena's prestigious Valley Hunt Club. I sang with the Art Deco Orchestra for several years including performances at the Ford Ampitheatre July 2001 in A Night At The Cocoanut Grove in addition to numerous fundraisers hosted by celebrities such as Gregory Hines (20th Anniversary Chapman University American Celebration), Nell Carter, Edward James Olmos, and legendary screen siren Raquel Welch (7th Annual Noche de Gala). In 2001, I dipped my feet in music video production and worked with Terry Lippman, manager of Adema and Matchbox 20. I was Production Coordinator for Bottlefly's Got 2 B Love music video. Then shortly after, Philip Michael Thomas of Miami Vice fame flew me to Miami to record a duet. I brought my Mom with me and she was sooo excited to meet him! I performed at the Atlanta convention center and went back into the studio to record backing vocals for Universal artist Billie Myers and Virgin Records artist blues legend Solomon Burke. Later that year, Wayne Brady flew me to Orlando, Florida to perform backup in his show, I landed 4 national commercials for Verizon and began writing my book called "Contrary Action." The book took 5 years to write. I have also written 2 children’s books which I is in the process of getting illustrated in addition to pitching a television idea to networks and doingthe final rewrite of my Screenplay "Stardust." I am happiest when I am creating. In 2007, I finished my 1st solo album called "As I Am" which is now available on my website, numerous other sites and CD Baby. I was also recently cast in a reality television show which will be airing in August. Thanks for taking some time to get to know me. I'd love to get to know you. Send me an email at wendyalane1@yahoo.com. I respond to every email I get, personally! And look for more live performances, exciting film, television and recording projects from me in the future! |
